Applying a skin freshener is not putting lotion on you face, you're swiping very last trace of oils, dirt, and grime off your face. Remember, too, that, especially for aging skin, a skin freshener is restoring the proper acid balance to you skin, hence protecting it.
Moisten a cotton pad with the freshener and then, with upward and outward strokes, wipe your face with gentle, but firm movements. Use several pieces of cotton if necessary until no more dirt is apparent.
Witch Hazel Skin Freshener
Use as you would any fancy brand. It will work just as well or even possibly better because it is absolutely pure.
Strawberry or Cucumber Skin Freshener
2 oz strained strawberry or cucumber juice
3 oz witch hazel
1 oz alcohol (eliminate if skin is very dry)
1 tbsp vegetable oil
Shake all together in bottle. (Refrigerate Cucumber freshener.)
Rose Water Skin Freshener
1 oz alcohol
1 tsp vegetable oil
Shake all together in bottle.
Grapefruit, Lemon or Lime Skin Freshener
Fruit of your choice
3 oz alcohol
4 oz witch hazel
1 tbsp vegetable oil
Peel fruit (avoid including white pith with peels) and cut into thin strips. Place alcohol in small glass bowl and add 2 tbsp of the peels. Let stand, covered tightly, for three days. Reserve 2 oz of the flavored alcohol. Add all other ingredients and shake well in bottle. (You may note that in all skin fresheners for other types of skins, the actual juices are too astringent for an aging skin, and by soaking the peels in this manner, the oils of the fruit peel are extracted giving all of the fruit’s refreshing attributes and aroma without its full strength.)
Chamomile Skin Freshener
4 oz witch hazel
Shake together in bottle.
