Sunscreens for Complete or Nearly Complete Sunblocks


Zinc Oxide Block

Zinc oxide

Spread on areas where you want total protection from the sun. if you want a flesh color, mix with Nutracolor from the drugstore.


Sunblock Cream

2 oz anhydrous lanolin
1 tbsp sesame oil
2 oz rose water
2 tbsp zinc oxide

Melt lanolin and beat in warmed sesame oil. Heat rose water slightly and beat into mixture until coolish. Beat in zinc oxide and put in jar. Refrigerate when not in use.


Wintergreen Sunblock

2 tbsp beeswax
3 oz sesame oil
2 tbsp cocoa butter
1 oz strong, dark tea
1/2 tsp borax
2 tsp methyl salicylate (oil of wintergreen)

Melt, warm, and mix first 5 ingredients. Beat until cool and add methyl salicylate. Refrigerate when not in use. Do not use near eyes and keep away from children. Oil of wintergreen is a poison, but is commonly used in commercial sunscreens.


Wintergreen Sun Lotion

1 Tsp borax
7 oz rose water
1 oz oil of wintergreen
2 tsp glycerin
3 tbsp alcohol

Dissolve borax in water. Add oil of wintergreen. Stir until dissolved. Add other ingredients. Shake in bottle and filter through double layer of cheesecloth after a couple of days. Shake before use. Do not use near eyes and keep away from children. Oil of wintergreen is a poison, but is commonly used in commercial sunscreens.
